I stumbled across one error that seems to be frequent:

"VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices" won't start anymore.

Solution: http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_vc40_u1_rel_notes.html - use a valid path to a jvm.dll (not path, filename ist required)

I have three ESX hosts on vSphere 4.0 and got vCenter 4.0 running as well

I manually update vSphere Client 4.0 to 4.0u1 doing manual install procedures (setup.exe)

I run Update Manager on vSphereClient to apply updates to my hosts. So the hosts run 4.0u1 as well.

But how can I update my vCenter from 4.0 to 4.0u1? Do I have to take the full package 208167 and run setup?

But I can't get the USB redirection to work. I plug in a USB stick and it doesn't appear on the computer. I have no TCX license and I don't want to buy any. I just want regular USB sticks to appear so my users can transfer data.

For printers and scanners we rely on network equipment.

Thomas Hirt has writte a VBS script that you link in your logon script. It has support for net use, printers and thinapp reg depending on groups or users: [http://www.tcpdump.com/kb/virtualization/virtual-desktop/thinapp-deployment-guide/intro.html] You need to register but the script alone is worth it !http://communities.vmware.com/images/emoticons/cool.gif!

BTW the Desktop Icon is a result of a regular lnk. file placed in %Desktop% - no magic there.

Basically it depens solely on what you want to achieve. If your standard desktop doesn't have or need DotNet Framework, don't install it on your ThinApp Capture Machine. So if an application needs the framework, it will be within the package.

If you have a standard desktop that you roll out and your standard desktop has the DotNet Framework (e.g. installed using WSUS), us this kind of machine as ThinApp Capture Machine. We decided to install DotNet, Java, IE8 and Office into our system image so we start capturing from this setup.

You could as well make a DotNet Framework Package and AppLink this to your Application, as described in this video using Google Chrome and Adobe Flash Player (ignore the music)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9zCgk0lt6M

Works flawless. Now I don't want this specific machine being assigned to "Hans" any longer. I want to revoke the user, to take the machine back and I want the user to get a new machine the next time he logs in.

When I change entitlement, he can't login any long. Of course I can destroy the machine and he gets a new one but I want to reuse this specific machine. How?

BTW for the inital login on a freshly provisioned workstation I can't use the Wyse Client.

I will disable memory reservation, as you say, there was no need for it and there was no change as well. The W2K8x64 has NO services or software or roles installed (well, there are at least 30 services running as always).

As my regular Windows 2003 x86 don't use a lot of ram (normally 5-10%) I am a bit shocked to see those two taking everything. Or reserving everything. It doesn't make me feel good to migrate more machines to W2K8x64 when I see that "grabbing".
