Wow. That's fairly lame support from VMware for one of the major web browsers in the world--especially since they've been pushing for everyone to only use the Web Client for years now.

Incidentally, we had a VMware Professional Services person onsite a few months ago to do a review of our environment and in the process he mentioned that all the push towards the Web Client at this point is just going through the motions. He said that he has friends that are on the team at VMware that is actively developing a Mac Fat Client. I don't know how much I can put my faith in what he said, though.

We upgraded to vCenter 6.0 recently (a horrible experience, for the record--make dang sure you have DB backups!) and I can say that the thick client is a TON more stable than it was in 5.5.

One of their engineers told me at VMworld that they ARE, in fact, rewriting it in HTML5. What we have currently is a result of them developing it years ago when Flash was the most common way that people wrote web applications. Now, that being said, it's pretty darn horrible of an app even compared to other Flash-based web apps out there.

They announced at VMworld this week that the support for the C# client will only be extended to include VMs that are version 10 in a patch AFTER 5.5u2. And they had a note in a slide at one of the talks that mentioned continued support of even VMs version 11 but only in some as-yet-undefined limited capacity. When I asked for details, they said it would probably include only the most basic of modifications like CPU and RAM. I requested more so we could at least use it to see details like what datastore the VM resides on. (currently, if using datastore clusters, the Summary tab only tells you which datastore cluster it's on) They still emphasized, again, that we must all move to the WebClient 'cuz support will end for the C# client.

Is this really an official post from VMware? The username doesn't look like what I would expect an actual VMware employee to have.

If this is true, then how do we get the VI Client to work with VMs that have VM Version 10? Is there some sort of update or patch we have to install for that?

The only real improvements that I recall from our upgrade to 5.5 (I wasn't the one who did the upgrade, so I'm going by what my teammate told me) was that the SSO stuff was improved immensely.

I also regret the fact that my coworker upgraded all of our VMs to version 10. The WebClient is horrible. I can't find the options I want. The tree display on the left keeps changing on me when I'm trying to select something. I feel like I really have no clear idea of the stat of my VMware environment 'cuz it's so tough to find things or see the status now. Whoever decided at VMware that this current interface is the way to go should be fired. I'd bet it's the same idiots that built the horrible web interface for Altiris.
