vSphere 8 OSDATA supported Datastore Device Types

I have been reviewing the Partner University tutorials at: https://partneruniversity.vmware.com/oltpublish/site/coursePlayer.do?dispatch=show&courseSessionId=2b373db6-16e3-11ed-b5a6-0cc47a352292

The link has the following information which i have not found elsewhere:

"Datastore device must be a type which is also supported by OSDATA:

Supported by OSDATA : local NVMe/SSD/HDD or remote FCoE or hardware-independent iSCSI
Not Supported by OSDATA software iSCSI)".

1. In our environment, we use a SW iSCSI adapter to connect to datastores. The statement above appears to indicate that datastores based on a Software iSCSI adapter are not supported for OSDATA.

2. Is my assumption correct?

3. Is the information posted in training correct.

vSphere 8 TPM support

I have many Cisco C220 M5 servers with TPM 1.2 installed (which is unsupported with vSphere 8). The TPM chips cannot be removed. If I disable the TPM 1.2 chip in the BIOS, will the server be supported by the ESXI compatibility guide? Is there another workaround?

ESXi version 8 IA Syslog configuration

I have deployed ESXi 8 IA in a development environment and have the following questions:

1. I need to maintain the existing syslog loghost UDP and TCP configuration from ESXi 7 to ESXi 8. What would be the exact loghost commands to minimize any impact.

2. Can you provide samples of the ESXi loghost options. I have been unable to use the formatter and framing options.

VCF 4.3.1 to VCF 4.4 Mgmt Domain stretch cluster ESXi upgrade fails

I have a VCF 4.3.1 mgmt domain stretch cluster. I am trying to upgrade the ESXI hosts via SDDC Manager GUI. The upgrade ESXi cluster task is failing after each host upgrade with with the following msg (VCF 4.4 is disabling SSH on the host after the 4.4 upgrade):

Remediation Message: The Cluster status is not healthy (green). Check for errors in the lcm log files located on SDDC Manager under /var/log/vmware/vcf/lcm. Please retry the upgrade once the upgrade is available again.

Cause:

I have not found a way to retry the Upgrade Domain - [xxx] using BUNDLE - HOST-7.03-19193900 task. So basically on SDDC Manager I select the domain > available updates and select Retry Update which results in an upgrade of the next management domain stretch cluster host. SDDC Manager precheck is passing. What is the best way to resolve this issue?

VCF 4.1 to VCF 4.2 upgrade fails at ESXi upgrade

VCF 4.0.0.0 workload domain upgrades

I will be using SDDC Manager (4.0.0.0) to upgrade to VCF 4.2 and have several questions:

1. Are workload domains upgraded sequentially, or can they be upgraded in parallel?

2. I have two workload domains. The first WLD(1) has NSX-T Managers and Edge Nodes. The second WLD(2) has been configured to use the NSX-T Managers and Edge Nodes in WLD(1). Do I have to upgrade WLD(1) before I can upgrade WLD(2)?

VCSA boots into grub mode

I am running VCF 4.0.0. On one of my Workload Domains the VCSA (7.0u1 Build 16860138) will not boot. It stops at the following messages:

GRUB loading

Welcome to GRUB!

error: file '/grub2/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found.

Entering rescue mode...

grub rescue>

Does anyone have a solution for this issue?

VVD System requirements for vROPS Remote Collector Storage Resource

Hi, I am reviewing the following doc: Deployment Model of vRealize Operations Manager which has the following table:

vRealize Operations Manager Remote Collector CPU, Memory, and Storage Resources

Attribute	Appliance
Appliance size	Standard
CPU	2 vCPUs
Memory	4 GB
Additional Storage	N/A

It appears the the Remote Collector Node is a VM, but the Additional Storage requirements cell has "N/A".

Can someone explain the minimum storage requirements for this VM, or does it default to the same storage requirements

as the cluster nodes?

VCF Cloudbuilder management domain deployment by JSON file

VCF 4.x expanding and shrinking management workload hosts

In reviewing the VCF 4.x Ops and Admin Guide, there is a section for "Expand a Workload Domain", which includes a management or VI workload domain.

There is also a section for "Shrink a Workload Domain" which references only Workload Domains. Does this mean you cannot shrink a management domain

by removing a management domain host, even if that leaves you with the minimum of four management hosts?

VCF Edition component listing

In reviewing VMware documentation, there appear to be four VCF 4.x editions: starter, standard, advanced and enterprise.

Is there any official document or website which documents the ordering sku for each different VCF edition and identifies its

constituent components? Specifically what is the difference in the software components in each edition. For example,

VCF Advanced Edition includes NSX Data Center Advanced, while VCF Enterprise Edition includes NSX DC Enterprise Plus. I am looking for

the same level of detail for each of the software components included in the VCF editions.

VCF 4.x Managing Shutdown and Startup of Cloud Foundation

VCF Operations and Admin Gd 3.9 14 Jan 2020 has a section for Managing Shutdown and Start UP. Can someone

tell me where the comparable VCF 4.x content can be found, I have not found it in the 4.x Operations and Admin Guide.

I assume that the VCF 4.x Shutdown and Startup is comparable to 3.9, but just want to be thorough.

SDDC Manager removal of VRSLCM

What is the recommended method to remove VRSLCM from a VCF management domain?
