So I took the exam this afternoon and passed. It wasn't super easy but if you are familiar with VMware products and their functionality you will be ok.

The video covers a portion of topics but not everything. Obvisouly I can't give exact areas, but what i do plan on doing is diving deeper into the areas I had concerns with when taking the exam.

Thanks I will report back here tonight after I take it. Pass or fail. I do like the curse so far it is pretty easy to follow.

It also is an automatic discount so there is no promo involved. I registered today and plan on taking it tonight.

Scott,

No doubt actually using the software the best option, I whole heartdly agree on books being a reference point. They are all just tools to help you prepare. Like your own website has alot of great information and that information alone will not garuntee you passing but it helps by giving more exposure.

I feel some of the books help take away that whitepaper feel you get when studying straight documents. Which we all know it can be overwhelming at times.

So you live in MA? Me too! Not sure if you have already attended a training session or not. I personally feel that if you can make it in person it is better as Scott says the inperson interaction is good. If you are at home or work watching on line there's chance for alot of distractions and it could take away from your learning experience.

One option to help with your studies or to help others is get involved with other techies in your area forming a study group per se. it helps by being able to bounce questions and invoke discussion which helps the learning process.

Just curious Peter have you tried contacting VMware Certification team and see if by chance they could give you a retake chance? I think if you didn't use any discounts for your exam then possibly they could assist. Can't hurt to ask and worse case they say is sorry nothing we can do.

Like stated above regardless you must attend a Class to obtain your VCP certification. Mastering vSphere by Scott Lowe is a great resource and will surely help. And personally I would see that as a reference manual over study guide.

There are other books out there

VCP Exam Cram

VCP VMware Certified Professional vSphere 4 Study Guide (Exam VCP410)

Both are great resources geared towards the exams.

I for 1 am glad to see this!! I think it is a good idea and gives people a cushion. Sometimes we understand the material but when testing boom mind goes blank or who knows exactly why but we have to take exam 2x's. I think this should be a constant promotion personally but will take it while we can

one thing to remember with the HCL it's not 100% there are plenty of systems that can handle running VMware products.

For the home lab your cheapest route would be workstation trial and trial of vsphere, if you don't have the funds to purchase a new system to make a whitebox.
