topic Migration from Workstation Pro 17 to Mac Fusion 13 Pro in VMware Workstation Pro Discussions

Hello,

I have installed the demo version of Workstation Pro 17 which I really like. Now I have all my setup ready and I'm using Ubuntu 22.04 and I want to buy the full version. I am experiencing some other issues related to my PC and unfortunately I need to send it back. This means I need a new PC.

Due to a lot of issues I had with Windows OS, I am thinking to switch to a Mac, so the question is, is migration possible from Windows Host to Mac Host? If yes, how?

If the answer is no, then the question is, can I migrate my configured image to a different PC with Windows? If yes, does it matter what CPU it has? Should it be the same brand?

The last question , if for example I will buy the Wokstation Pro, but then I switch to Mac, is it possible to switch the licenses or I need to buy again for the corresponding platform?

Thank you in advance.

First question - it depends. If you get an Intel-based Mac, then yes, Fusion can run all VMs created with Workstation just fine. If you get an Apple-silicon-based Mac, then no. You will have to create all new VMs with OS's built for ARM-based processors.

Second question - Yes. It shouldn't matter one bit (as long as the VMs were powered off, not just suspended. If they were, you should manually delete the suspend file before powering on (it will be like you pulled the plug on the computer).

Fusion and Workstation share licenses, I believe... and if personal use, one license is good for up to 3 different host computers - PC or Mac.

Thank you for your reply! Then it's perfect. I wouldn't have wanted to make all the setup again.
