Workstation 17 Pro: Map or Mount a Virtual Disk to a Drive on the Host System...no more available?

Hello everyone!

According to the "Map or Mount a Virtual Disk to a Drive on the Host System" at

the feature is available for Workstation 17 Pro (the dropdown menu is working accordingly).

However the 17.0.0 release note at section #5 - Product Support Notices

quotes:

"The option to map or mount a virtual disk to a drive on the host system is no longer available in Workstation Pro."

-- Which one is correct, please?

I would not upgrade from 16.2.5 to 17.0 if that feature has been actually removed.

The feature has been removed (and has not worked correctly since 16.2.0). And according to the product manager, is not coming back. Showstopper for me with my work, so I have to stick with 16.1.2 as the latest version I can use.

Does anyone know a valid reason for removing this feature? I would like to stay up to date using the latest version but this feature is important to me.

VMware Workstation used to be a great product but it doesn't seem to have been getting much internal support in more recent years - features are dropped with no mention of any reason, compatibility issues are more frequent...the company seems to have turned it's back on the home and small business user and solely focusing on corporate enterprise now, it's time for me to look for another product.
