WS 16 on Xubuntu installs, but does not start

I installed Xubuntu 22.04.01 LTS with 5.15.0-52-generic kernel.
I then installed VMware-Workstation-Full-16.2.4-20089737.x86_64.bundle.
No errors appeared during the installation, but only after starting it.
I installed gcc and started again WS.
The error appears that "several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel", but a new error follows.
Reading on the net, I find several solutions and it is not clear what exactly I should do.

Try "sudo apt update" and then "sudo apt install build-essential" (do not enter the quotes).
