The Linux host machine that I am running my VM (also Linux) from crashed recently. Fortunately i have a backup of the host machine, but I need to access the VM's files from the backup of the host machine. Can anyone tell me where in the host machine's file system the VM's file system lives? Thanks in advance.

The guest lives entirely in the .vmdk file(s) on your host. You should be able to use the vmware-mount.pl script to mount the virtual disk as another drive on your host as long as the guest is not running.

I have a similar problem and need to access the virtual machine drive, but I have no vmware-mount.pl script. What can I do?

I am running Windows XP as a guest to Kubuntu 6.06.

Thanks,

Komyg
