SMBus controller not enabled

I open VMare workstation 17 player (non-commercial use only), and i open an exiting VM, provided by my professor. I click "play VM".

After which in about 5-10 seconds, I get a screen saying:

[2.205504] piix4_smbus 0000:00:07.3: SMBus Controller not enabled!!!!

/dev/.............................................. (theres some numbers and other stuff but not relevant)

You are in emergency mode. After logging in, type "journalcct1 -xb" to view system logs, "systemct1 reboot" to reboot, "systemct1 default" or "exit" to boot into default mode.
Press Enter for Maintenance (or press Control-D to continue):

I CANT TYPE ANYTHING. ALL I CAN DO IS PRESS ENTER OR CONTROL-D.

If i press Enter i get:

root@xubuntu-virtual-machine:~#

after which I press Control-D and it says:

exit

Reloading system manager configuration

Starting default target

BRIGHT RED TEXT SAYING: Failed to start default target: Transaction for graphical.target/start is destructive (emergency.target has 'start' job queued, but 'stop' is included in transaction).

I need help fixing this
