You can check on boot.gz file to identify if there had been any failure messages while allocating interrupts for the card.

Second possible reason which I faced sometime back was the populating done on the server itself.

Hi there

Im having an issue with vmware identifiing and using some NICs.

The server is a dell 620 it has 4 onboard nic porta and three duel port add in nics

the onboard is an intel x520/i350

onboard

port 1 10gb Connected

port 2 10gb Conencted

port 3 1gb Connected

port 4 1gb Connected

1st nic x540t

port 1 10gb Connected

port 2 10gb Connected

2nd nic x520

port 1 10gb Connected

port 2 10gb

3rd nic x520

port 1 10gb

port 2 10gb

This is how it looks on the idrac, below is how it looks in vmware

onboard

port 1 10gb Connected

port 2 10gb Conencted

port 3 1gb Connected

port 4 1gb onnected

1st nic x540t

port 1 10gb connected

port 2 10gb Connected

3rd nic x520

port 1 10gb

port 2 10gb

If i move the sfp from card2 to a server or fluke tester the link comes up, if i move it to a port on the third card it does not show the module as inserted in vmware.

I dont see why that should be happening or why nic 2 is not showing up in vmware.

The cards are all intel and I think they are on the supported list, it was reinstalled with vsphere 6up2 dell edition, they all didnt show up with earlier vmware versions either.

If it were driver i would expect none of the x520 to work rather than one card not showing up.
