One of the most significant challenges that organizations face when modernizing how they deliver IT is change. Change introduces complexity, uncertainty, as well as a potential disruption to business operations.

Organizations can mitigate the impact that change will have by enabling a consistent infrastructure and operational model across their technology landscape, making it easier to accelerate digital transformation by adopting new technologies and services.

An important question that is top of mind for many of our customers is “How do we integrate new tools and resources with existing legacy systems?”

You can watch the webinar here.

In this scenario the customer faced a business challenge that led them to select VMware Cloud on Dell EMC. They did this to create a unified and consistent infrastructure and operational model. The second post highlighted the need for a cloud service so the customer could spend less time managing day-two operations and more time integrating two companies. This final post explores how the customer will complete the last and most delicate part of their project: workload migration.

VMware’s VMC on Dell EMC solution has just achieved a certificate of compliance for ISO/IEC 27001. This adds to our growing list of security certifications including SOC2 type-1. ISO/IEC is a combination of two international standards bodies: the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). These two standards organizations meet, debate, vote for, and publish compliance guidelines. These guidelines can then be leveraged by an accredited auditor.

VMware Cloud on Dell EMC is a service that brings the VMware Managed Cloud (VMC) to your on-premises edge and data center locations. The service encompasses hardware, software, and all required licenses and support including hardware break-fix. You subscribe to the service through the VMware Cloud on Dell EMC portal and the hardware gets delivered to your location as a rack appliance. The rack comes with a fully configured SDDC infrastructure and requires an external network and power connectivity to activate the SDDC.

The VMware Cloud on Dell EMC Release Notes outlines new features and releases for the service.

VMware Cloud on Dell EMC - Hybrid Linked Mode

Hybrid Linked Mode links your VMware Cloud on Dell EMC vCenter Server instance with an on-premises vCenter Single Sign-On domain. You can configure the Hybrid Linked Mode between VMware Cloud on Dell EMC SDDC and on-premises SDDC either directly or through vCenter Cloud Gateway to manage both the SDDCs in a single user interface. This can also be used to support VM migration across these SDDCs.

Before you can use Hybrid Linked Mode with VMware Cloud on Dell EMC, you must configure your on-premises vCenter to enable single sign-on. For more information, see vSphere Authentication with vCenter Single Sign-On.

If you link your cloud vCenter Server to a domain that contains multiple vCenter Server instances linked using Enhanced Linked Mode, all those instances are linked to your VMware Cloud on Dell EMC SDDC.

The Hybrid Linked Mode documentation outlines detailed information on how to achieve this.

Order an SDDC to host your workloads. To order an SDDC, you must first choose a location where you want to install it, select a rack, specify the number of hosts for your SDDC, and set up the management and VeloCloud networks. You can either complete the ordering process at a stretch or save the details and continue later. The SDDC you created is listed on the SDDCs page. You can access your SDDC from this page anytime and continue with the ordering process flow.
