Error 134 when downloading VMWare Fusion Tech Preview 2023

So let me just say that I am NOT tech savvy at all and I probably sound like an old granny in this post that doesn't know how to use a computer so just bear with me please. I'll try to be as thorough as possible in this post, but if you need more information please ask me and I will gladly give it to you. I'm using a 2020 MacBook Air with an M1 chip that's running MacOS Big Sur 11.6. I don't have any fancy external chip things running on it, and pretty much everything technical on it is just factory settings.

Anyways, I'm downloading the VMWare Fusion Tech Preview 2023 to run Windows on my Mac and I've been very carefully following a tutorial on how to do it. I get to the part where I put "./ w11arm_esd2iso" in the terminal window thing and it asks me if I want to create an ISO containing Windows 11 ARM Home/Professional editions by entering "h","e", or "q". Anyways, I hit "e" to create a Professional/Enterprise ISO and I get this error message as soon as I hit enter.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please wait while information is being downloaded from Microsoft for the Professiona/Enterprise) ESDs
dyld: Symbol not found: __ZNKSt3__115basic_stringbufIcNS_11char_traitsIcEENS_9allocatorIcEEE3strEv
Referenced from: /Users/mygmail@gmail.com/Desktop/Build/./bin/aria2c (which was built for Mac OS X 14.0)
Expected in: /usr/lib/libc++.1.dylib

./w11arm_esd2iso: line 97: 61266 Abort trap: 6 aria2c --dir="$wDir" --out=catalog.cab --download-result=hide "https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?linkid=2156292"
[ERROR] Catalog download failed with error 134

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does anyone know why I keep getting this Error 134 whenever I try to download it? It's happened everytime I've run the command and I have no idea how I'm messing up and it's very frustrating. Is there anything I can do to fix the error and stop it from happening? Any help is very appreciated.

Missing Camera (USB Video device) in Windows 11 x64 ARM VM

I currently have two Windows 11 x64 ARM virtual machines created with the same ISO installer, one of which correctly shows my MacBook Pro M2 Max camera, whereas the second does not. I noted the driver includes usbvideo.sys, and so I right-clicked on its associated usbvideo.inf file in the affected machine and successfully installed the hardware but it's still not displaying in my device list, not even as a hidden item. I've also tried reinstalling VMware Tools v12.3.0 to no effect. Is there anything I can do to get the FaceTime camera recognised?

Logitech 3D Extreme Joystick (USB) not recognised by Windows 11 x64 ARM VM

With the latest VMware Tools (12.3.0 - thanks for the tip, Technogeezer!) I was finally able to run IL-2 Sturmovik 1946, a DirectX 8 Windows aviation simulator, in a VMware Windows 11 x64 ARM (MacBook Pro M2 Max Host macOS Sonoma host) virtual machine. The frame rates at 1920 x 1080 resolution are comparable to that in Parallels Desktop 19.0, however I cannot for the life of me get the USB Logitech joystick to connect. In Parallels Desktop (and CrossOver 23.5.0) the joystick is recognised immediately once plugged in, and drivers are automatically installed by Windows to enable calibration.

In the Fusion Tech Preview virtual machine no matter which USB plug I try, either connected to an external display or to the MacBook Pro itself, the joystick isn't being shown in the Settings panel. Has anyone had any luck with USB devices that weren't automatically recognised by the virtual machine, perhaps by modifying a Fusion configuration file? Other USB accessories, such as external hard drives or DVD players, are listed and available once plugged in (although the external hard disk formatted in APFS doesn't display in File Explorer).

Thanks for your help!

Energy status in the VM

Hello, thank you for this wonderful VM. I‘m running the Tech Preview on an M2 MBAir under Sonoma with Win11arm and it‘s a dream - super stable, super fast, just fantastic.

I set the VM to pass the energy status from Mac to VM. However, I see no energy options in the Windows control panel, and there is no battery indicator in the Windows task bar. It seems as if Windows (or the VM) is actually ignoring the energy information from the Mac. Is that so?

Have a great day, and - again - thank you very much,

Karl

I'm running the tech preview on a 2022 M2 MacBook Air. I upgraded to Sonoma yesterday. If VoiceOver isn't running, my Windows 11 virtual machine starts normally. However, if VoiceOVer is running, the VM won't start. If I turn on VoiceOver after the VM is running, it is switched off within a few seconds.

If I upgrade to Sonoma, am I likely to run into issues with it? I can't find any information about the tech preview's compatibility with Sonoma. Thanks.

When installing Windows 11 in Fusion, i choose to just "ecnrypt vm files" instead of virtual disk..

I then got corrupted windows after complete shut down and could not repair, (see my other post).

I then thought, in order to post log to Microsoft community, and i was doing troubleshooting in WinPE, i thought i could just :

- add a known good working .vmdk from backup, and boot to that.

- add the corrupted .vmdk as 2nd, so i can access and copy log..

so i removed 1st hd, added known good backup vmdk, then re-added the corrupted one as a 2nd

However when i tried to "Apply" I got "can't add encrypted hard drive" so effectively, i was stuck..

Which is false.... The vm files were only encrypted, not the vmdk disk... so why can't i add it? The known-good one is also not encypted. as i only ever prefer encrypting vm fils, not disk.. So i know that's not the issue.

Thanks to the official and unofficial guides, I had no problems installing Windows 11 ARM as a VM under Fusion 2023 Tech Preview.

The only thing I noticed so far is that the special keys don't work. The keyboard of my M2 Mac mini is German, so in Sonoma (I did a fresh install when it was released) I can easily get "@" by typing Option-L, "\" by typing Shift-Option-7 and so on.

This does also work out of the box in my Windows 11 VM on my Intel iMac (VMware Fusion 13.0.2 Pro, Windows 11 Pro).

While there may be ways to fix the mappings in Windows somehow (are there?), I was thinking if this works on Intel right away, maybe it should on ARM, too.

I used the w11arm_esd2iso to create the Windows 11 ARM ISO, I selected en-us when asked to choose a language. In Windows, I selected the keyboard German.

Hello all. Using Mac Pro M1 14, win 11 pro release 22621 fully patched, latest vmware 2023 tech preview (e x p).

Audio has considerable stutter/lag/popping. This is noticeable even when playing the test sounds in the windows control panel. Choosing higher bit depths/sampling rates makes it worse, but even present with the lowest 16k/44kHz. Very noticeable for example with 3dmark fire strike demo (which otherwise works well!).

I've searched the forums and don't see any recent fixes. A parallels demo install has no similar issues.

Any thoughts?

When running the installer I'm getting stuck on the "Initializing VMware Fusion..." part. When looking at the log file I see some warning messages with the last one being "2023-09-21T19:55:27.207Z Wa(03) host-618964 Failed to communicated with install helper."

I had last years technical preview installed and working as well. Now install of the technical preview and regular fusion player will get stuck in the install process. I tried deleting all vmware/fusion files I could find on the Mac, but no help so far.

Here the full log output:

2023-09-21T19:55:22.713Z In(05) VMware Fusion Log for VMware Fusion pid=8920 version=e.x.p build=build-22068932 option=Release
2023-09-21T19:55:22.713Z In(05) VMware Fusion The host is 64-bit Arm.
2023-09-21T19:55:22.713Z In(05) VMware Fusion Host codepage=UTF-8 encoding=UTF-8
2023-09-21T19:55:22.713Z In(05) VMware Fusion Host is macOS 13.5.2 (22G91) Darwin 22.6.0
2023-09-21T19:55:22.713Z In(05) VMware Fusion Host offset from UTC is +02:00.
2023-09-21T19:55:22.703Z In(05) VMware Fusion VTHREAD 8054677632 "VMware Fusion" tid 618887
2023-09-21T19:55:22.703Z In(05) VMware Fusion UTIL: Change file descriptor limit from soft 256,hard 4294967295 to soft 8192,hard 4294967295.
2023-09-21T19:55:22.704Z In(05) VMware Fusion DictionaryLoad: Cannot open file "/Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion/config": No such file or directory.
2023-09-21T19:55:22.704Z In(05) VMware Fusion [msg.dictionary.load.openFailed] Cannot open file "/Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion/config": No such file or directory.
2023-09-21T19:55:22.704Z In(05) VMware Fusion PREF Optional preferences file not found at /Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion/config.

Installed the tech preview last week per the instructions, everything went as expected. Then today I can't connect the win 11 vm to the network, Well it works it in Host-Only mode, but that isn't really going to cut it.

I've deleted the network adapter, ensured the vm knows the OS is Win 11, re-added the network adapter, reinstalled the vmware tools, checked the network device looks correct under device manager....

Any other suggestions?

I apologize for making so many posts - but each of these feels like a distinct and separate problem with the installation instructions. Am I following the right guide? If so, it seems to be out of date. On page 39 "Procedure: Creating the VM and installing Windows 11 from ISO", step 3, it says to click on the window and press Shift-Fn-F10. Small issue, but that did not do anything for me. Probably my das Keyboard. I had to just press Shift-F10 for it to respond.

But on the next step, Step 4, it says to run .\setup.exe from the D drive. I get the message ".\setup.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command." And if I run 'dir', there is no setup.exe inn the D drive's root directory.

There's a "setup.ps1". But if I run that, it puts up a dialog "Package failed updates, dependency or conflict validation."

Hello I am trying to follow along with the Tech Preview Companion. I used CrystalFetch to download the .iso. I followed the Testing Guide to install the .iso.

But when it ran the installer, it waited a while with the message "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD?" I wasn't sure whether to press a key or not, so I waited. Then it went to this screen. Not sure what I did wrong?

install problem
