Fusion 22H2 Tech Preview "Internal Error" after upgrading to new encryption scheme

Hi,

I just tried to update my existing Windows 11 arm VM to the new encryption scheme, but after it's done an "Internal Error" occurs. The message is something like "the machine got encrypted successfully, but after that an internal error occured". After that it's impossible to start up the machine, even after restarting Fusion or the host machine (M1 Pro MacBook Pro). Keeping the old encryption scheme works fine with all new feature like hardware acceleration and vmware-tools.

Best,
Brian

can't get Windows programs to search my Music folder

I'm trying to use the Windows software StationPlaylist Studio to broadcast from my Mac from windows 11 using VMware Fusion 13. I added the folder where Apple Music saves my content as a Sharepoint, granted everyone read and write access, open it in file Explorer in Windows, and mapped it to a drive letter. I can open files from that folder manually in StationPlaylist, and they play fine, but when I designate the drive as the folder StationPlaylist should build a search database from, it skips the folder completely. There's no error message; it just won't search the folder. It will search a different folder that I'm sharing, but it's a folder I created rather than one created by Apple Music. I have another Windows search program called Search everything that also skips this folder. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What I lack the most is the old crispness of the fonts and so on. My (old) windows programs look very blurry. I have tried the following:

.- adjusting the resolution in windows from regular HD to full Retina HD. No luck.

- turning on and of "Use full resolution for Retina"

What am I missing there? Could not find any discussion of this issue so think that I must have overlooked something.

Thansk

Morten

It works with no issues on 22H1 (19431034)

vmrun getGuestIPAddress [vmx-file] fails with a "Error: Unable to get the IP address" on 22H2 and pretty unclear what to look for and where

Tried to get some clues by logging into the vm and enabling log in /etc/vmware-tools/tools.conf with log=true and vmsvc.level = debug but might need some clues as to where to troubleshoot in an efficient way.

Most of the discussions happened before Ventura was released and majority of them are just guessing. Since this feature requires support from both CPU and OS

The only useful info are in a twitter thread (which I am no longer able to find) where a VMWare person mentioned in M2 apple enabled access to some CPU register so could be possible.
Surprised and Please Windows 11 22H2

I was surprised and pleased when my VM with Windows 11 21H2 prompted me in Windows Update to upgrade to 22H2. The update went smoothly and I am now using a Windows 11 22H2 VM.

Although the VM does not meet the minimum requirements for joining the Windows Insider program, it does qualify for version updates through the normal Windows Update mechanisms.

LeRoy

Trouble with GDB debug stub and arm64 Linux guest

I'm going to give the "collecting support information" window until the end of writing this post to complete, but I can't tell if it's actually doing anything.

I have an Ubuntu 20.04 arm64 guest and I'm trying to debug the Linux kernel.

With debugStub.hideBreakpoints = "TRUE", when I set a breakpoint on a `ret` instruction I'm interested in, and continue, the kernel seems to enter a loop and the `ret` instruction breakpoint just gets hit again and again rather than control flow continuing forward.

If I set `debugStub.hideBreakpoints = "FALSE"`, upon connecting the debugger and continuing execution, the VM process seems to crash, and I need to restart VMware Fusion to boot the VM up again.

This is with Fusion Tech Preview 22H2.

Aside: I'm not sure if debugStub.listen.guest64.remote is supposed to work or not; I can't connect to the debug stub from another machine without using SSH port forwarding.
