Opening ESX VM in Workstation

Hi All,

Can I just copy over a VM from ESX to my local hard drive and open it in Workstation without doing the import function. The problem is doing the import the line speed to where this VM is located is slow and it would take forever, can I do this manually somehow since I have the files locally?

When I open the VM I get this error:

File not found: MARFS02.vmdk, this file is required to power on the virtual machine, if this file was moved, please provide the new location, I am selecting the new location though..

Thanks,

Greg

You need to use VMware Converter or the Import feature of Workstation to import the ESX .vmdk into the correct format for Workstation

Yes - you can do that. See

You just need to edit the disk descriptor and vmx-file a bit
