Based on the various forum posts, I would like to consolidate and collect more information in this thread. Please respond here even if you responded elsewhere, it will allow us to more easily find trends if everyone responds here:

If you are having problems with bridged wireless networking:

      1) What Mac do you have?

      2) What version of Mac OS X are you running?

      3) Are you running B, G, N or a combination of wireless networking technologies?

      4) What base station are you connected to?

      5) Have you applied the latest Airport Update from 7/30 and does it help?

      6) If you are using N networking, if you drop back to G or B networking, does the problem occur?

I am sure the networking folks will have more questions, but I would like to start here.

Thanks for your help in trying help us to better understand what is going on.

If you are having problems with bridged wireless

          networking:

Note: I'm having problems with \*NAT* wireless networking, but since the symptoms match what many people are reporting with bridged wireless networking, I'll fill out the survey anyway in case it helps.  Specifically, the symptoms I'm seeing are intermittent loss of connectivity from my Ubuntu 7.04 guest VM.  Sometimes this is accompanied by loss of connectivity on the host OS.  Sometimes only DNS is affected, and I can ping remote machines from the VM by IP address (like the problem reported in this thread: http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=634363&#634363).

          1) What Mac do you have?

A MacBook Pro with a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo (older 32 bit) CPU and an AirPort Extreme  (0x168C, 0x86) wireless card with firmware version 1.1.8.5.

          2) What version of Mac OS X are you running?

          Mac OS X 10.4.10 (8R2218)

          3) Are you running B, G, N or a combination of

          wireless networking technologies?

At the moment I'm using a wireless gateway in mixed B/G mode.

          4) What base station are you connected to?

          A Linksys WRT54GL running firmware version 4.30.5.

          5) Have you applied the latest Airport Update from

          7/30 and does it help?

I'm applying it now.  Will report back afterwards.

          6) If you are using N networking, if you drop back to

G or B networking, does the problem occur?

          N/A

N networking connecting to Airport Extreme N base station.

                  4) What base station are you connected to?

See 3) - base station operating in bridged mode.

Applied. Doesn't cure however a subjective feeling that problems are less frequent.

                  6) If you are using N networking, if you drop back to

G or B networking, does the problem occur?

                  Yes.

Previous MBP Core Duo never had this problem but was on G network only. The Airport Extreme station was set to G network only at that point. Only difference now is the SR MBP and the Extreme station is now set to N only at 5 GHz wide channels.

I'm also seeing this issue.  Here are my specs:

                        3) Are you running B, G, N or a combination of wireless networking technologies?

                        N

                        4) What base station are you connected to?

                        Airport Extreme (5GHz Mode)

                        5) Have you applied the latest Airport Update from 7/30 and does it help?

Yes, I installed it, but I am still having the same problems.

                        6) If you are using N networking, if you drop back to G or B networking, does the problem occur?

I have tried G, but it seems to still occur.

Thanks for taking this seriously VMWare... I really appreciate the service!  It's a welcomed change from certain competitors...

Please note that the WRT54G isn't very well supported under MacOSX. Half the time you can't connect to those damn things. Stupid wireless router thingy. Even without VMWare Fusion installed, we had to buy a different wireless router so my Apple computers could connect to the wireless network at home.

I have had absolutely no problems with the WRT54G.  I guess I am lucky to have an older version that can run non-OEM firmware.  Just for the record, my issues with Fusion and bridged networking are not exclusive to the WRT54G -- they extend to every AP I have connected to, including enterprise-grade products from Cisco and 3Com.  In fact, I cannot recall any AP that I have connected to that I haven't experienced these issues with.

Can not make Bridged wireless network work at all

                                1) What Mac do you have?

                                MacBook 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo, 2G RAM

                                2) What version of Mac OS X are you running?

10.4.10 build 8R2232, my VM uses Windows Vista with all the patches applied

                                3) Are you running B, G, N or a combination of wireless networking technologies?

                                N

                                4) What base station are you connected to?

Airport Extreme which is connected via ethernet to a 2Wire modem. BTW I used to have the same setup using Parallels in Bridged mode an it worked pretty well.

                                5) Have you applied the latest Airport Update from 7/30 and does it help?

Yes, Update applied it does  not help

                                6) If you are using N networking, if you drop back to G or B networking, does the problem

                                occur?

Yes. I took the Airport extreme out of the equation and tried connecting directly to the 2Wire using its  wireless capabiltiy in B/G mode, it didn't work either

I have bought a copy and expect you guys will fix the problem within the next week, otherwise the software is useless without a network....currenly I am back in using parallels, as it works.....reason for me to use VM fusion is the USB 2.0 support.

                                  Good luck
