Can't start virtual machine

I get this error when starting windows xp home.

I can't also delete it. It was working fine before this:

Cannot open the disk 'C:\Documents and Settings\Jorge\Os meus documentos\My Virtual Machines\Windows XP Home Edition\Windows XP Home Edition.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

Reason: Failed to lock the file.

What product are you using Server or Workstation?

I am seeing this same error with VMware Server. I have moved an image from one directory to another and it tries to open the vmdk file from the old directory.

How can I fix this.

Thanks

This seems like it should be in the vmware server topics. But what I would say is see if you can edit the settings and point it to the correct vmdk files.

It's possible that you just have a *.lck file or *.lck directory that needs deleting.

Can you post the .vmx file and vmware.log file from the VM, if deleting the *.lck fails to fix your issue

Thanks to Kevin and Rich for responding, I figured this out yesterday after searching the forum's. It seems that the ######.vmdk has a filepathhint setting and I was able to modify that with the ddtget and ddtset utilities so that the vmdk is now looking in the correct folder to launch an image.

This is the first time I have seen this issue and I have been using VMWare for about 4 yrs. Wierd, but at least now I have a documented fix.

Thanks to all!

Hello,

I created two guest nodes in windows 2003 . I can only able to start one node at a time. When I try to start the second node I am getting the following error: "Cannot open disk 'E:\xx\xx\ocr.vmdk or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. Reason: Failed to lock the file"

I really will appreciate your help.
