Can't add rebuild ESX host back to VirtualCenter 2.0.1

I had to rebuild an ESX 3.0.1 host. When I try to add it back to VirtualCenter I get the following error:

"Unable to access the specified host. It either does not exist, the server software is not responding, or there is a network problem"

I can connect using SSH, the web interface and the VI client directly to the host without issue.

VC is 2.0.1 33643.

trying pinging the server from the virtual center server and see if it responds.

Did you try adding it using username?

Check DNS resolution or write it in the etc/hosts file.

Look into the database and search an old istance of the host.

Delete record.
