Assuming a host based licence, /etc/vmware/vmware.lic. For VirtualCenter it's in the licence server.

Thanks.

Actually, It is managed by Virtual Center.

Can you tell me how I get the serial number from the licence server. I've had a look but can't find anything obvious.

At the licence server, start/.../VMware Licence Server Tools, 'Config Services' tab, browse button to the license file. Copy the path and open the file with Wordpad, dont edit it.

I have opened the vmware.lic that in that path but there is no obvious reference to a serial number. There is a lot of hex though.

Am I doing something wrong?

What do you mean by a serial number? You get a number originally that you redeem on the VMware licensing site, which gives you your license file. You can logon to your account and it will show issued licenses and the "serial numbers" used to aquire them.
