barts PE/ghost32 disk to disk clone SLOW

Hi All,

I have an 18 gb partition that I need to increase. It seems to me the simplest way is to attach a larger new disk, then use ghost to do a disk to disk clone.

However, when I do this, the speed is very low...about 150 or so. On other physical machines I've done, I routinely get 2000+. I dont expect that, but 150 is very slow.

Coincidentally, this is what I get when doing ip to ip clones too.

Any thoughts would be great.

why does ghost run so slow doing a disk to disk? is there no way of increasing the speed?

Assuming it is the C drive: Actually, there is an easier way, using the BartPE disk. Shut down the VM. Expand the disk from service console with: vmkfstools -X 25G disk.vmdk, with 25 being whatever you want the new size to be, and assuming you are already in the VM's directory (otherwise use whole path to disk file).

Boot with BartPE and use diskpart to extend that drive. Shut down, detach CD, boot again, should be done.

If it is not the C drive, just expand the disk like in part one, then just boot the VM again and use diskpart from within the guest OS.

i added space with the vmware tool command, however now when i use the extend command within diskpart.exe with Barts PE....I get

the volume size you have selected is too large for the disk. either select a disk with more free space, or specify a smaller volume

i have selected the right volume etc.

I've never used this method with a twofer disk. Maybe you had the right idea after all, with Ghost. Only advice I can give you there is to make sure both ends are set to 100/Full.

it shouldn't be using the lan, as its disk to disk....?
