    Metrics based on folders?

    ScottThomson Lurker

      I'm sure this is simple but I just cant seem to get it right.

      I basically want to tally the allocated CPU/MEM/DISK from all virtual machines in a vSphere folder to a scoreboard widget.

      I have tried all kinds of super metrics filtering and different object groups, etc, this is eluding me and I'm about to crack it

      Any help steering me in the right direction would be great.

          I think you are right... its pretty simple! Or i'm completely misinterpreting your end result.

          First create a Super Metric:

          Assign to object types Virtual Machine Folder

          Next create a dashboard with two widgets;

          1) - Object list -> Object types: Virtual Machine Folder

          2) - Scoreboard -> Select the Super Metric

          Create an interactive link between the two widgets.

          G'luck!

            Absolutely perfect, you are a legend!

            That has got me started in the right direction, now to up the ante

            Is it possible to remove the object list and just leave the scoreboard and base the scoreboard on folder A and folder B and Folder C

            So it tallies those three folders regardless of what is placed in them?

            I'm guessing i would need to create a group or use the filter based on virtual machine folder?

            Or would i include a 'where' statement in the super metric?

            Thanks again

              That can be done in two ways;

              1) static way:

              Edit the scoreboard widget and change "self provider" from off to on. Now you will get a new option called "input data". Here you can select objects and then the VM folders you want.

              2) dynamic way:

              Edit the scoreboard widget and change "self provider" from off to on. Go to "output filter" and select a (dynamic) filter for VM folders.

              Hope this helps!
