Hey, hope you are doing fine:
Most likely this is related to a connectivity issue:
Are both VMs on the same host?
Do you have port 903 open on the host where the black screen VM resides? (you can telnet from where you are connecting)
Do you have IP and DNS (forward and reverse) connectivity to the host?
Do you have vCenter?
Can you please post vm logs? you can find them on the VM folder on the datastore.
Well if you used to ping using the FQDN and now it is not replying then that issue has to be related with the DNS Server as it is nothing related with the VM. You should check your records there.
Can you see the VMware Tools up and running?
