SMTP alerts on ESXI

Hi Team

I am not vmware expert, but just manage a ESXI for on Cisco UCS server (Collabration)

we have 4 UCS servers and I manage all 4 servers through webpage by logging into the ESXI.

I just want to know, can we enable SMTP system alerts on this system? or is it a must to have a vcenter?

This is a function of vCenter Server.
