The serial# actually will no longer preempt the active/standby role (not sure on the exact release when that changed but it's been a while). In a situation where the same number of WAN/LAN links exist on both edges, whichever edge becomes active first will remain active even if HA is established with another edge with a higher serial# (idea being that just because an edge has a higher SN doesn't warrant causing the minimal disruption associated with an HA failover). Doesn't really answer your question but hopefully at least shows why it shouldn't matter
to be honest I think it answers it better than you think... I appreciate the immediate response.... I have one more question
We are in the early stages of a pilot and things are going well... Going forward I will be sure to record which serial number relates to which physical VCE.... However we have deployed two or three sites and I really don't know which serial number goes with which physical VCE... I guess I can always have someone visit the site.... But is there a way via the Portal to determine this........ in other words I have sites with dual VCE3800's and I could see each serial number but how do I determine which physical VCE is which serial number.
Thanks in advance
In Remote Diagnostics, the "HA Info" test will tell you which edge has which circuits connected to it. Additionally, the "Identify" function under remote actions will blink lights on the active appliance so that someone onsite can confirm for you.
