vCenter can help you to update the VMware tools and the Virtual HW at the VM level but it is not involved in gest (os) patch.

For that the are multiple tools that you can use depending in your OS (SSCM, WSUS if you are using microsoft / Satellite for RedHat and so on)

Cheers

The easiest way should be using SCCM or WSUS for windows systems and Satellite for Redhat
Maybe all can be integrated with vRealize Orchestrator, so you can call update processes from a script.
But an easier way should be Installing VMware tools and hardware compatibility on reboot and scheduling a reboot from WSUS/SCCM/Satelite

VMware was owner of Shavlik and with VUM it was also possible to patch certain Linux Distributions and Windows of course.  But when WSUS  was already in place no customer see the need to switch.
