vSphere 7.0 Multipathin iSCSI over RDMA - port binding path status: Not Used

Hello,

I'm trying to configure Multipathing iSCSI over RDMA (iSER) using ConnectX-5 Ex EN network interface card 100GbE dual-port QSFP28 (MCX516A-CCAT) and ESXi 7.0.

I designate a separate vSphere switch for each virtual-to-physical adapter pair.

IP addresses:

iSCSI Server: 172.16.0.1 - vmk1: 172.16.0.2

iSCSI Server: 172.16.1.1 - vmk2: 172.16.1.2

But path status is Not used.

The same problem occurs when configuring one vSwitch. What is the problem and how can i solve it?

Thank you.

You cant use "Port binding" of the swISCSI when having VMKs in different subnets. Take a look to VMware Knowledge Base .

Thank you for your reply

In the documentation for vmware there is:

The following considerations apply when you use multiple physical adapters:

a) The single switch configuration is not appropriate for iSER because iSER does not support NIC teaming.

b) Physical network adapters must be on the same subnet as the storage system they connect to.

c) (Applies only to iSCSI and not to iSER) If you use separate vSphere switches, you must connect them to different IP subnets.

So I have two separated vSphere switches - (needed for iSER)

Physical network adapters are on the same subnet as the storage system

Storage IP's: 172.16.0.1, 172.16.02

vmnic(vmk1) 172.16.0.10

vmnic(vmk2) 172.16.0.11

from the vmware documentation

Do not use port binding when any of the following conditions exist:

VMkernel adapters used for iSCSI connectivity exist in different broadcast domains, IP subnets, or use different virtual switches.

I have two virtual switches so I cannot use Port Binding.

How can I configure Multipathing with iSER to make it work?
