I've been testing out the new MacOS 10.15 beta and keep seeing an error when running installers that modify files and folders in the user's Documents folder. When I de-select the installations that modify ~/Documents, the installers always succeed.
Sometimes the error manifests as a failure while preparing to install, sometimes the installer fails during the post-installation steps, when chown and chmod are used to change file ownership/permissions in the Documents folder.
The failure doesn't usually occur on a fresh installation--typically it happens after running a different version of the installer, or even an identical copy of the first installer. The failure only occurs when the installer is double clicked--it never occurs when run headless or in the debugger.
