Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password. VMware hypervisor 7.0

Hello,

I just installed VMware hypervisor 7.0 free on my Home Server and got the login error:  "Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password."

The logon not working on Direct Console Interface (DCUI), vSphere Web GUI, SSH but on ESXi Shell works properly.  I got only esxi Hypervisor instalation without vCenter.

do you have any special characters in the password, which may be on different keys depending on the keyboard layout (language)?

Such issues often occur when the correct keyboard layout is not selected during installation.

Btw. how did you enable Shell access without access to the DCUI, or the GUI?

Try the below and check if the account is locked

Pam_tally2 --user=root

if its shows locked then unlock the account using

Pam_tally2 --user=root --reset
