Use VMware Fusion 11 license to run version 8?

I have an old Mac computer, so the latest VMware Fusion I can run is version 8.  I would like to purchase a license for it, but I can only find version 11 in the store.  If I purchase version 11, would that still work for version 8?

Just a note, Fusion 8, and the OS's that will run it, have a lot of known security vulnerabilities.  I'd recommend that those machines only be used offline these days.
