Hi,
VMware in this post: ESXi 5.1 Update 3 bootable ISO
You can find it as a Custom image for the following vendors:
HPE: https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=HPE-ESXI-5.1.0U3-GA&productId=285
DELL: VMware ESXi 5.1 Update 3 Recovery Image | Dettagli sui driver | Dell Italia
What hardware do you need to install it on?

we use Advantech servers. would these customized iso's work with other server like Advantech?
Hi,
There is no customized image for your brand.
You can download this, but you must have an enabled account.
VMware vSphere 5: Private Cloud Computing, Server and Data Center Virtualization
I did a test and you can download it without problems (just a simple registered account):

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me out. I've registered with vmware since the free 4.0 version. For some reason, I cant download it anymore, only the 5.5 version.
I use the free 5.1 on a pen but would like to install on older hardware and 5.5 always complains about not having the correct NIC hardware.
Can I get this esxi hypervisor any other way?
Thanks
Carlos
What NIC do you have? Chances are that you can get more up-to-date versions of ESXi to run on that host. An example for one of the most common cards is e.g. here: https://tinkertry.com/install-esxi-5-5-with-realtek-8111-or-8168-nic (you might want to use an even more up to date version of ESXi though).
Hello, Alex Romeo!
About this download link for ESXi 5.1 u3, is it a free download that I could also get, to start some show off to the mates in my company?
@cfsSolgen Do you really need 5.1? It’s very old, no longer updated or supported…
Hi, Scott!
Thnks for you reply!
I am not a big expert and then, to provide our company team with some show up, I would prefer to present what I can already do.
Also, I know that for the free licenses, we can still register for those old versions 5.x.x.
Yesterday, I managed to register for 5.5.0. I will start by trying to install this one.
