Ubuntu 18.04.4 VMTools vs. Open VM Tools?

I have two Ubuntu 18.04.4 VMs.  One uses the VMware Tools while the other uses Open VM Tools.  On the Open VM Tools systems I can select 100%/200%/300% scaling in display properties and use Full resolution for Retina display.  On the VMware Tools VM there is no option for scaling in Display properties.  Searching discussions I found references to this issue in Workstation that were resolved by checking an "Autofit Guest" box that is available in Workstation properties.  How does one resolve this in Fusion?

The VMtools VM does not offer scaling either with or without Retina display set.

Myself dropped VMware Tools usage as soon as I got aware of VmWare position and recommendation regarding this. No more under maintenance, it would be recommended to switch to Open VM Tools.
