BootCamp partition boots in VMWare Fusion but not by itself

What it says on the tin.  I can boot my virtual machine with fusion just fine but the boot camp partition won't start windows by itself.  I can't even figure out how to get windows into safe mode as my MacBook Pro had the touch strip and, thus, no F4 key on boot.

My google-fu is apparently weak.  Any suggestions?

Hi,

Yes, use the tweak suggestion from VMware's zhus here:

Fusion 10 MacBook Pro Touch Bar configuration?

With that setting you can have function keys at a touch bar whenever your VM is focused.

I almost forgot how to do this until I read your post.

edit: Oh.. sorry, now understand you need the F4 key outside of Fusion, it isn't really a VMware problem after all.

Hmm..

If this is Windows 10 then it gives you the "repair windows options" if you fail a boot 3 times in a row.

Yet another possibility might be to hook up an external keyboard.
