Hi,

Tasks to perform before conversion

To prepare for conversion:

1.     If the source is a domain controller, special considerations must be made. VMware does not recommend virtualizing an active domain controller with Converter.

But in my situation i have a complex DC servers & i would get more benefits if i converted directly instead of creating a new VM if i could know a safe path to convert it. !!

In addition, I have two file servers working in a fail-over cluster (Shared LUN (RDM)) between them. any suggestion about the steps of how to convert them ?

Thanks

Hi,

this AndrewTheGiant answer in the post summarizes the steps on how to virtualize a Windows cluster very clearly.

P2V Windows Cluster

  • first step (cluster physical-virtual)
P2V of the passive node (to convert ONLY the system disk)
then you turn off the phycal node and add to the VM the cluster disk as RDM
and then power on the node
  • second step (cluster across boxes)
move the resource to the virtual node
than P2V of the remaing physical node
          turn off the physical node
add the cluster disk as RDM to the new VM
and then power on the second virtual node.
