VM's not stroring swap file correctly

Hi,

I am running ESXI 6.5 update 3 (Build 15256549).

I have noticed that the VM's are not storing their swap files in the datastore that I have set on the host, as shown below:

swap_location.png

For the VM's the settings have been set as:

vm_settings.PNG

However the VM still keeps creating the swap file locally to itself, even of I user the Datastore specified by host.

Any thoughts or ideas on why is occurring and the host setting not being used?

Thanks

Sunny

you must shutdown and restart the vm - a reboot is not sufficient

Hi,

I have tried this along with restarting the whole ESXI server, but the issue still occurs.

Hi Bee,

I followed the steps, but did not work, ESXI reports that the setting is invalid and remves it from the vmx file.

What if ESXi is correct and you entered invalid parameters ?

In other words - lets see what you entered ...

Is it happened for all of your VMs or not specific VMs? after changing host swap settings did you try to create a new VM and check its swap file?

and another point, are you sure both of *.swap and vmx-*.swap files are still in initial place?

Also please check value of this entry line: sched.swap.derivedName in the .vmx file of that VM. where is mentioned? old location or new one as the swap datastore?
