I'm running Workstation 12 Pro
I'm attempting to move my VM files from my C:\ drive to a SSD drive (D:\).
I copied all of the files with a filename like: VM_Win_7_Pro_x64_Off_2010_x32
to a new folder on my 😧 Drive but when I attempted to open that VM, I received the following message:
The files in that folder are listed below, one of which is the referenced .vmdk file. Did I miss a step in this migration process?
someone on another forum (Experts-Exchange) suggested that I simply clone the original VM, which worked perfectly.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Hi,
the .vmx file contains the configuration of the virtual machine, you have to change the path of the hard disk inside it, or use a utility that recreates the vmx file from the vmdk file.
Or
Recreating a missing virtual machine disk descriptor file (.vmdk)

Hi,
From the looks of it you are missing files :
VM_Win_7_Pro_x64_Off_2010_x32-s018.vmdk
VM_Win_7_Pro_x64_Off_2010_x32-s019.vmdk
VM_Win_7_Pro_x64_Off_2010_x32-s020.vmdk
VM_Win_7_Pro_x64_Off_2010_x32-s021.vmdk
VM_Win_7_Pro_x64_Off_2010_x32-s022.vmdk
If you can't find those files then please attach:
VM_Win_7_Pro_x64_Off_2010_x32.vmdk
and
VM_Win_7_Pro_x64_Off_2010_x32.vmx
