Need your help on below error.

Error Stack:

An error occurred while reverting to a snapshot: The capacity of the parent virtual disk and the capacity of the child disk are different.

Cannot open the disk '/vmfs/volumes/xxxx/VM_1-000010.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

Did you resize the base virtual disk from e.g. the command line?

Please explain - as detailed as possible - what happened.

Yes, tried to resize the vHDD, know it showing 0 MB size. disk is missing. How to resolve the issue.

Please explain how you tried to resize the virtual disk.

In addition to this run ls -lisa > filelist.txt from the command line to list the files in the VM's folder. Then download filelist.txt from the datastore, and attach the file to your next reply.

You didn't explain how you've resized the virtual disk yet. However, I assume that you did this using vmkfstools from the command line. I further assume that you didn't yet change anything from within the guest OS, e.g. partition sizes.

Please use e.g. WinSCP, download all of the VM's descriptor .vmdk files (the small ones without flat, or sesparse in their names), compress/zip these files, and attach the .zip archive to your next reply.

What I need to know too, is whether you do have sufficient free disk space on one of your datastores to clone the 500GB virtual disk (i.e. its previous/original size).

Looks like no changes were to the vmx-file or the rest of the chain.

If Vishain confirms that a simple cut is both safe and by far the fastest option.

should do it unless we are missing the most important parts of the story.

I'm indeed thinking of something similar like cutting the file back to it's original size, or to simply "fake" the old size by modifying the descriptor file,

Faking the size through modifying the descriptor will allow for two options (unless I'm missing something):

• create a clone including all snapshots (save approach, but will require additional disk space)
• delete all snapshots, and then change the descriptor file's settings back to the new/expanded size

Your option to simply cut the flat file using e.g. dd will work too, but since there's a requirement to increase the virtual disk's size, the second option that I mentioned should do the trick in a very similar way.
