Trying to reset Inventory Service Data Provider - no vpx product

I'm trying to solve an issue where the vSphere Web Client shows an emtpy inventory. Also, searching the inventory through the Flex client doesn't work. So, I tried to follow this article: VMware Knowledge Base . Unfortunately, when I perform step 4 there is no vpx product! I think this could well be the source of the problem.

My question: is there any way to recreate the vpx provider?

Some info about the environment:

  • vCenter Server is build on a Windows Cluster with an external Windows PSC.
  • vCenter Server 6.0 U3i

If vpx provider doesn't exist it basically means inventory service is not registered with component manager.

You will have to follow the below KB article: VMware Knowledge Base

Thanks for your reply.

I also found that article but I didn't want to create a new database. However, I will try to re-register the Inventory Service with the Component Manager. To be continued...

Re-registerering was indeed the solution. A nice bonus was that searching through the old flex client now also works. Thanks!
