Permanent Device loss and All paths down impact on VM

Hi everyone,

I am reading  about PDL/APD as described by this link :

VMware Knowledge Base

I understand the difference between PDL and APD and the reasons these could happen. However, I am trying to understand what is the impact on VM when we do have such issues.

Will VM crash if it can not read/write to its hard disk ( read LUN behind a target)? will it just simply freeze if it can not read/write to its hard disk?

Thanks and have a good weekend!!

that depends on the OS, some OS'es will have the volume go read-only, some will crash, some will give you BSOD. So the result varies, but essentially is the same: the VM/App is pretty much useless as it is unavailable or it can't write to disk.

Based on my experience it depends on many factors.

Which OS, what application you are running or just what kind of read/write operations happened.

I would assume that your VM will crash.
