P2V old legacy 2003 R2 OS 32 Bit

Hi All,

We have a legacy hardware Dell power edge 1800 Server  with 2003 R2 32 bit OS and critical application is running. Recently the server was unable to re-boot due to hard drive failure but somehow we were able to power on by removing one HDD. We want to do P2V to get rid of legacy hardware. I found that VMware stand alone converter 6.0 is not available in vmware site.

What are other possibilities to p2v the physical machines ?  Thanks

Use a Linux LiveCD with ddrescue to convert the existing disks into vmdks. Dont wait much longer when the disks are failing already.

If it is an option - call me via skype: need an update on the state of your disk.

Yes - a Linux LiveCD with ddrescue will help when your disks are faulty - by the way the approach also is the most reliable option ...

I also have a coldclone CD but that does not seem to be the case for it.

You can still download VMware Standalone Converter:

Converter Version History

But you have to login with VMware account.

Or you can use other free tool to do p2v for example:

1. boot physical machine into linux

2. create flat.vmdks with

ddrescue /dev/sda sda-flat.vmdk sdacopy.log

3. create vmdk-descriptor file

4. repeat 2. and 3. for all disks

5. create vmx file

6. run converter „configure machine“ against the vmx file

if you are clever you create the flat.vmdks with ddrescue directly on the vmfs volume via sshfs

send from iphone
