Hi-
Trying to configure vcenter server to send smtp alerts using the following article, Configure Mail Sender Settings, but getting stuck at step 3 (pasted below)--i do not see a General tab under Configure for the VCenter VM. I'm probably misunderstanding, but any guidance would be a help. It's a VSphere 6.7 Essentials license, if that matters. Thanks.
The SMTP server is the DNS name or IP address of the SMTP gateway to use for sending email messages.
The sender account is the email address of the sender.
Hi
You could try this:
Configure vCenter Mail Sender and E-mail Alerts - VirtuBytes
Hehehe..... you have select the VM it self. The manual means that you have to select the vCenter application which is the top level object within the tree on the left side of your screen.

Joerg
Ah... thank you. I see. So that's sorted. Now where do I find the where to configure the SMTP relay settings like authentication, port, etc.?
You can do it in "Advanced Settings" section of the vcenter server configure tab.
Search for smtp, then you can find username, password and port settings
THANKS !
Hello
I have set SMTP information. How can I test for a successful send?
Edit an existing alarm like Host Memory and reduce the warning threshold down to 1%. Be sure that you have select "email" as action.
When the yellow alarm sign popped up on in the GUI just check the Events on Cluster/Host level for the notification of sending an email.
Regards,
Joerg
I did that for a gmail account which I know the smtp works. Please see that hosts memory is above 50% (most of the time they are >50%).
Then I created an alarm like this:
Please note that the smtp configuration in the GENERAL and ADVANCED sections are shown below.
Please note that sender and receiver are different (black and red bars).
Is there any way to check the logs? I can not find that.
Maybe it is trying to send email but there are some errors which I can not see.
Excuse me. Please see the alarm tab below that it can has been triggered.
Check the Events on cluster level.... there will be notification about sending the mail for every single alarm.
Regards,
Joerg
Don't see anything informative about email problems here.
Please see three event:
1- From green to yellow
2- Triggered an action
3- Sent email
As you see..... the VCSA tried to send an E-Mail.
If you dont get the mail
Regards,
Joerg
I tried to login to the vCenter via ssh. As you can see there are no sign of smtp or gmail in /var/log

Where are the detailed logs then?
Although I found the general section and the see the Mail area, there's no Edit button anywhere so that I can modify anything. I must be missing something simple.
Look at the blue text EDIT in the upper right side of the screen
Trying to get mine working with gmail smtp, believe it's all set correctly but never receive the messages. Anyone get this working correctly?
I have same problem. This nice vmware employee told me to open ticket in official support center.@@
I am using VCSA 7
This nice VMware employee (who doesn't work in the support team) was merely giving you guidance that VMTN is a user community forum after you started a post "Hi Support team".
