Hi, Semot.
Try this:
1. while installing, do it as follows
[as root]
~# export LC_ALL=C
~# bash VMware-Workstation-Full-15.5.0-14665864.x86_64.bundle --prefix=/where-you-want-to-intall-it --eulas-agreed --custom
which should fix the "Buffer too small / unrecoverable error" issue (my distros: KUbuntu 19.04 64bit + Fedora 30 64bit, and it's worked fine on both. Source: as far as I can tell, this one).
2. The aforementioned hack, though, should fix only the "Buffer too small / unrecoverable error" issue. However, as it seems, that is STILL not enough to have a working installation of VMware WS. So (again as root ) you will probably have to do
~# chmod a+r /etc/vmware/config
This finally should allow the program to start normally (source: this thread in the vmware community).
For the record, I add that I have a VMware Workstation 15.5 Player, and NOT the Pro edition. However, I guess the aforementioned hacks will work as well...
Hope this helps 😃
