CPU Generation compatibility

I have a customer, who is already using vSphere in their environment.

Current VMware CPU Version is – E5-2697-v4

They want to add latest scalable Gen-1 or Gen-2 processor to existing cluster.

Broadwell(exsiting) & Scalable Gen-1/Gen-2(new)

Any Inputs on compatibility and EVC will be helpful.
