Dev vcentre and cluster in the same subnet as production vcentre and cluster

Newbie here, was wondering if it is ok to have a  dev vcentre and cluster on the same subnet as the production vcentre and cluster? any information would be greatly appreciated..

As I understand.  It is best to isolate all your environments from the outside and connect them internally.
