DELL R430 & R530 HBA suggestion required for ALL FLASH VSAN 6.7.0 U2

Hi All,

DELL R430 & R530 HBA suggestion required for ALL FLASH VSAN 6.7.0 U2

Here is our hardware specifications.

Currently I'm validating these 2 hardware's for new VSAN 6.7 U2 setup.I see,the IO controller "PERC H330 Mini (Embedded)" is not compatible for VSAN 6.7.0. Please refer this link for more information. https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2149392

Another IO controller "PERC H730 Mini (Embedded)"  is compatible for VSAN 6.7.0 U2 as per VSAN IO controller list.

As per my search,HBA330 is generally a very better choice. Even though the another IO controller "PERC H730 Mini" supports VSAN 6.7 Update 2,we like to replace these controller also with HBA 330.Both R430 and R530 controller will be replaced with HBA 330.

Does this HBA 330 performance will be much faster when using All Flash VSAN ? or any other HBA can be preferred (LSI 9300-8i or 9305-16i )?

Please advise if anything is there.

Thank you,

Manivel RR

The H330 is an el´cheapo RAID controller without battery and write caching.

The HBA330 is a passthrough only Controller and should be your preferred choice. We use HBA330 in our AllFlash vSAN. I dont understood why they choose such a similar name.

Maybe you can take a look to the Dell Ready Nodes what they used for them.

Yeah.. they use them in the Ready Nodes.

Take a look to VMware Compatibility Guide - I/O Device Search . It have a nice QueueDepth

About the H730(and later H740). It the Dell Standard Raid Controller... IIRC also the H730 can configured in RAID or Passthrough Mode. But why pay money for Cache and Battery which cant be used for vSAN.

Joerg

Manivel,

for vSAN the HBA330 would usually be your best choice.
