AFAIK the rhttpproxy on the ESXi host is only used to access the Embedded Hosts Client (the HTML5 interface). Restarting it shouldn't affect any other services.
For details about the general Reverse Proxy functionality, see e.g. Reverse proxy - Wikipedia
The service httpproxy is "Reverse Proxy"
Usually it restarts in case of changes, to allow changes to be implemented.
The reverse proxy runs on each Platform Services Controller node and each vCenter Server system. It is a single entry point into the node and enables services that run on the node to communicate securely.

Thanks for the update. Actually the issue I'm having is with the ESXi Web Interface. Its stopped working and I cant access it through any browser.
Could restarting the rhttpproxy solve it?
