ixgben driver disabled by default

Hi,

Lately I have been given a driver to use by the vendor for a specific NIC, the driver uses ixgben but upon installing the driver and rebooting the host, the NIC was still using ixgbe

It turned out that ixgben is disabled by default and once I enabled and rebooted the host the NIC loaded/used the ixgben driver.

Anyone got any clues why ixgben would be disabled by default and if ixgbe should be manually disabled after enabling ixgben?  (Used the Vendor custom ESXI image)
