Topic Name : Increase an Existing VMFS Datastore in the VMware Host Client
Publication Name : vSphere Single Host Management - VMware Host Client
Product/Version : VMware vSphere/6.5
Question :
I increased the disk capacity on the server. However, I cannot increase the disk capacity on the ESXi-6.5.0. What should I do?
What is the issue you are facing while increasing datastore size ?
Any errors?
Any screen shots?
What type of storage are you using?

If you are trying to increase datastore size using host client it is failing .
Try with webclient OR Check if host is patched to latest and then give a try .
I have experienced this issue , post patching the host with lastest I was able to increase.
using webclient: Increase VMFS Datastore Capacity
Please mark this as "correct" or " Helpfull" if this answers your query.

Thanks Gayathri;
Storage of RAID 5
I want to add the free space I have shown in image 1 to the VMFS section. I'm doing the same thing as in picture 2. No progress on the screen you see in Figure 3. She stays here.
Are my actions correct?
Are you trying to extend existing ESXi local disk ? OR you are trying to add new disk and detect that as a datastore from esxi ?
From the screen shot it looks like you are trying to increase and its for local esxi disk where ESXi is installed ?

Let me tell you from the beginning.
My current disk space was not enough. To do this, I first added disk to the structure with raid 5. I have enlarged the disk space on the server.
Then I want to enlarge the area above esxi. I couldn't do that!
Yes I want to add and expand the free space on the esxi area as in the picture. Why not?
Welcome to the Community,
the VMFS datastore on the installation disk cannot be resized from the GUI, but only from the command line.
Please see https://kb.vmware.com/kb/2002461 for the steps to do this.
Note: In step 7 use the "partedUtil getUsableSectors ..." command rather then the mentioned subtraction from the sector count.

Hi André;
I'm foreign to the ESXI command screen. It's much easier to do them from the GUI interface. I didn't understand what you said on the link. Could you tell me more simply. With which commands can I expand disk space?
Let's start with gathering the required partition details.
To start with, please run the commands in steps 3, 5, and 7.
3.) vmkfstools -P "/vmfs/volumes/Datastore1"
replace "Datastore1" with your datastore's name
5.) partedUtil getptbl "/vmfs/devices/disks/mpx.vmhba0:C0:T0:L0"
replace "mpx.vmhba0:C0:T0:L0" with the output of the vmkfstools command
7.) partedUtil getUsableSectors "/vmfs/devices/disks/mpx.vmhba0:C0:T0:L0"
replace "mpx.vmhba0:C0:T0:L0" with the output of the vmkfstools command
Prior to running the commands, expand the putty window, to avoid line breaks in the output.
Once you've done with the commands, provide their output in a reply post.
Please paste the results in text format, i.e. not as a screenshot. This will make it easier to proceed with the next steps.
