Does 'disable ATS' affect storage performance?

    scottpsy Lurker

I recently had a problem with ESXi, forcing the server to reboot.

I received an answer after VMware SR.

They said storage was under load and that the storage was lock , and so HA is not operated

They said answer is disable ATS.

However, I know that ATS Disable affects storage performance from blog

What is the difference between disable ATS and disable ATS Heartbeat?

What happens when only Disable ATS Heartbeat ?

      Storage is EQ6210 (iSCSI).

I don't know if this storage supports ATS or not

          Hi,

You can show more information about your LUNs with this command line from an ESXi. if ATS is supported or not

          # esxcli storage vmfs lockmode list

Please, look at this documentation as well : VMFS Locking Mechanisms

          Thank you,

            The EqualLogic support ATS Locking..

[root@esx-node-97:~] esxcli storage vmfs lockmode list

Volume Name  UUID                                 Type    Locking Mode  ATS Compatible  ATS Upgrade Modes  ATS Incompatibility Reason

            -----------  -----------------------------------  ------  ------------  --------------  -----------------  --------------------------

grp-01-001   50018f37-09ffc5fc-dd29-d4ae528ea003  VMFS-5  ATS                     true  No upgrade needed

grp-01-002   500fe112-41f63236-46aa-d4ae528e8772  VMFS-5  ATS                     true  No upgrade needed

grp-01-007   52cbe217-a0892105-f3b4-e0db5515edee  VMFS-5  ATS                     true  No upgrade needed

Its also on the HCL VMware Compatibility Guide - Storage/SAN Search  if you expand your FW level and take a look to VAAI.

            Regards

            Joerg

              Hi,

              ATS is better than ATS+iscsi

You can verify VAAI support with this command :

              # esxcli storage core device vaai status get

And which plugin is used with this one

              # esxcli storage nmp device list

Be careful if you are in production environment and you would like to change nmp or SATP plugin

              Thank you,

              Regards,
