How to compare copy of virtual machine (vmwarevm "file")?

    AGerber Lurker

Is there a straightforward way of comparing a copy of a virtual machine from Fusion on a Mac?

I have a couple of retired virtual machines, and I'd like to offload them to external storage (microSDXC cards).  Is there a way to compare the copy with the original before I delete the original?  (The cmp command refuses with "Is a directory".)

          Hi,

I'm not sure what you expect by comparing as you will mostly be comparing big binary files.

If you are trying to figure out if you have duplicates of your virtual machines then I can recommend a tool like Beyond Compare from Scooter Software.

They have a 30 day full functional trial mode, which is probably sufficient for your problem.
