Best Practice to deploy multiple VCs in one Production Site

Whats the best practice to deploy Skyline Collector if we have multiple VC in one site.

Ex: We have 5 VCs in one site, can we deploy one skyline collector in this site and connect all 5 VCs? If so what should be the recommended VM Size for this collector appliance?

Hi,

This configuration should be good to add 10 vCenters. However you can increase it by a few GBs if possible to avoid making changes when a new version is released which may require more space.

Skyline automatically collects most, but not all data captured in VMWare product logs. Skyline uses secure protocols to transmit data over HTTPS or SSH. The Skyline info is encrypted with TLS 1.2 using cipher suite 'TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA256' during transmission and is not encrypted at rest.

Skyline collects:

1 vCenter, NSX manager/controller, vSAN inventory and state info.

2 VM names, sizing, configurations.

3 IP and host names.

Skyline does not collect:

1 IN guest workload details/content

2 ACL/DFW rules if you have NSX.

3 Low level details found within VMWare product logs.

Please refer to the below document for details.

Hi,

You can add upto 10 vCenters from the same site in one Skyline collector. Please refer to the below 'Skyline deployment and configuration guide' and let me know if you have any queries.

Hi Narasimha,

Does the following configuration is good for one skyline collector which would collect upto 10 vCenters? Or should the configuration be increased to accommodate 10 vCenter?

Number of vCPUs 2

Memory Disk Space 8 GB

Disk - 87 GB (1.1 GB initial if thin provisioned)

I have another questions, regarding the type of data that skyline pulls from the environment to vmware.  what files does vmware collects and does the data consists of configuration, feature metrics of UI activity, performance data?

Also what protocol is used to upload the data?
