HCMON Warning in Event Viewer - "Detected unrecogn...

Dear Community Guru's.

I've found posts as old as 7 years old referring to this issue, and I'm having the exact problem now in 2019. I get the errors below in the event viewer each time I plug in our out a USB device. And also at random times ( without actually plugging in anything.)

I'm running VMware Workstation 15 pro, latest version as of today ( 15.0.2 build-10952284 ), on an ASUS ROG GL702V Notebook, on Windows 10 64 bits latest build (17763).

Reading in ASUS' forums, the only solution that actually works is to disable the "VMWare USB Arbitration Service" , but that is not a real solution since it disables the possibility to attach USB devices to VM's.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Can you give more information?

1. The steps to reproduce this problem

2. The relative logs: VMware.log, and UI logs (get the log location from Help -> About VMware workstation )

Hi!

The error is not related with VMWare running per-se , it happens when it is NOT running actually, so all points out to a problem with the driver itself. When I stop the driver by stopping the USB Arbitration service, the error stops happening.

The steps are pretty simple:

1) Install VMWare workstation

2) Let it finish, reboot as normal to activate drivers

3) Just plug or unplug any USB device

4) the 3 errors popup in the event viewer

The error stops happening when

1) Set the Service "VMWare USB Arbitration Service" to "Disabled"

I've provided the steps to reproduce the problem above ... but basically unplugging any USB device will cause the 3 "Warnings" in the Event viewer to appear again.

Any ideas?

Moreover, but I don't know if is the same problem or another, sometimes all usb devices disconnect from the host and there aren't no chances to restore them working without reboot the host.

There is some relationship with usb hub over a thunderbolt docking station?

anyone ever find a solution to this. been plagued by my external hard drives suddenly becoming unuseable with an I/O error and finally began looking into it. (always solved by a reboot as you guys mention).

event viewer log gave the error which pointed me here.

Similar errors with Lenovo TB dock and Carbon X1C6. USB devices/ethernet become unusable sometimes after connecting to dock. Only reboot seems to solve. Furthermore, laptops USB ports stop responding after this situation.

Years later and same problem with WS v17. Problem I have is that I loose the ability to use any USB devices in the virtual machine until I log off the host and back on.
